NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

NOTICE PAPER NO. 161

Universal Secondary Education (USE)

This objective has been one of the priorities of the Government of Guyana and MOE during the last period. The country has been able to achieve what amounts to full coverage at the nursery and primary levels but secondary education only covers 78% of the relevant age cohort. The report on USE has recommended several actions considered strategic, which will be adopted in this plan.

The Education Ministry has commenced the distribution of some 1400 desktop computers to secondary schools as part of its schools’ computerisation programme.

To date, systems have been delivered to 55 of the 64 schools throughout the country that have been slated to benefit from the initiative. The remainder schools will receive their allotments shortly.

Digital Technology, the company that supplied the computers and accessories fulfilled its contractual obligations on September 29, and the ministry started the distribution process the next day.
