Improving School/Classroom Environment

Focus will be on:

Improvement of Physical Facilities/Infrastructure

Children are likely to learn better when in safe, comfortable buildings with sufficient space and adequate facilities. Good physical facilities also affect parents’ attitude to the school and teachers’ morale in a positive manner. Improving physical facilities is therefore a key factor in improving education delivery.

CPCE, UG get new computer labs

The Education Ministry on Thursday commissioned computer laboratories at the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) and the University of Guyana (UG).

The labs form part of the ministry’s Education Strategic Plan 2008-2013. The two facilities were commissioned by the Guyana Improving Teacher Education Project (GITEP). Built to the tune of more than $22.4 million for CPCE and more than $8.1 million for the School of Education and Humanities at UG, the project’s aim is to assist government in improving the education delivered to students by teachers.

UG opens IDCE branch at Charity


The University of Guyana (UG) Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE) in its quest to spread the light of learning has recently opened a branch at Charity, Region Two.

The facility on the Essequibo Coast houses a computer training centre and will be offering courses in Mathematics, English and other subject areas for adults and students who did not perform well at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC). The Charity branch compliments existing centres in New Amsterdam, Region Six and Georgetown.
