First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, yesterday, attended the Second Annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Robotics Exhibition hosted by STEM Guyana in collaboration with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) Company. Minister of Social Cohesion Dr George Norton during a visit to Region One (Barima-Waini) last Friday, underscored the importance of sports in schools. At the time of this pronouncement the Minister with responsibility for Sports and Culture was speaking to children at the Mabaruma and Hosorororo Primary schools.

… Seven boys among top 10

The Ministry of Education (MoE) last Friday recognized Region one (Barima-Waini) top ten National Grade Six Assessment performers with seven boys included in the group. At a ceremony to hounour the children at the Mabaruma Primary school, Minister of Social Cohesion Dr George Norton who was a part of the visiting team said he came from a similar background like the children of Mabaruma area although there were much less development during that time.

It is the duty of the ministry to “nurture the natural talents of our students from nursery all the way through our educational system”.

This was the view of Assistant Chief Education Officer (ag) with the responsibility for nursery schools, Samantha Williams. She was at the time delivering the feature address at the commissioning of the Diamond No. 2 Nursery School on the East Bank of Demerara.

A new nursery school was commissioned today in the community of Eastville (Annandale South), East Coast Demerara. The building of the Eastville Nursery School began in March 2016 and it was completed in August of 2017 at a cost of $20M.
