NGSA top 60 receive tablets from Ansa McAL

Today, the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) top sixty (60) performers each received a tablet from Ansa McAL Trading for their outstanding performances at the 2020 examination. At a time when schools across the country are still closed as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the devices will go a far way in ensuring that there are no difficulties with virtual learning for these students.

In his remarks at the award ceremony at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre (ACCC), Chief Education Officer Dr Marcel Hutson said that it is commendable on Ansa McAL’s part in recognizing the children’s performances. This, Dr Hutson believes will serve as an incentive to other students who will sit this examination in the future. The CEO told the students that the secret to their future is hidden in their daily routine and advised them to always maximise and make good use of their time as they embark on another chapter in their lives at secondary school.
Further, Dr Hutson said that it would have been remiss of him not to recognize the input of teachers who had a major role to play in this accomplishment. He said the Ministry of Education is grateful for the hard work teachers continue to do even as the world is grappling with the issue of delivering education during the pandemic.
Advisor to the Minister of Education Ms. Africo Selman, in her remarks to the children, said that normalcy of school life was interrupted because of COVID-19 for the children but they still ‘pushed on’. She told the children that although for the moment their interaction with fellow students and teachers will be done virtually they should enjoy it. The children were urged to grasp all the opportunities that become available to them and listen to advice that is given as well. She encouraged parents to continue to invest in their children’s education. “Please ensure that you monitor their gadget use carefully”, Ms Selman said as she believes this will ensure that it is used for its intended purpose.
Also proffering remarks was Mr Errol Nelson- Head of Business Unit- Ansa McAL Trading. He said that his company was pleased to be a part of the exercise since investing in young people is also an investment in the future. He said that during the current pandemic the devices will be of a greater need to the children since all of them are engaged with online learning at present.
