The Ministry of Education thanks WorldTeach Volunteers

The Ministry of Education wishes to thank the outgoing group of WorldTeach volunteers. The team of volunteers has spent one year teaching in Guyana.

WorldTeach is a Cambridge, Massachusetts, based Non-Profit organization that provides volunteers teachers to countries that request them. WorldTeach Guyana was first established during the 2005-2006 school year and has partnered with the Guyanese Ministry of Education to help meet the needs of the country. WorldTeach also provides an excellent opportunity for cultural exchange as the volunteers all derive from different backgrounds and become valuable parts of the communities they live in.

On Monday, July 8th 2013 a small but significant ceremony was held to thank the volunteers for the time they spent in Guyana. The volunteers in turn also thanked the Ministry of Education for providing such a fantastic opportunity. Port Kaituma volunteer Khlyee Miller said, “thank you so much for giving us the chance to live in and be part of your beautiful country. The children we taught will always be close to our hearts and our time in Guyana will never be forgotten. The love I have received will forever be cherished.”

Ms. Donna Chapman, Deputy Chief Education Officer, and Ms.June-Ann Gonsalves, Senior Education Officer were in attendance at the closing ceremony.
The WorldTeach volunteers were at various schools throughout the country and on August 11 a new batch will arrive to continue the tradition. According to Field Director Alicia Vignali,”The new group is excited and eager to come and learn more about Guyana. They are enthusiastic about serving as volunteer teachers and know that many amazing adventures await them.” For more information on WorldTeach please visit worldteach.org or contact Guyana Field Director Alicia Vignali at +5926855635 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
