Another new school for region nine secondary school to be constructed in Lethem
...all dormitories in the region to be extended

 Region nine Upper Takatu- Upper Essequibo today saw the commissioning of a new school bringing the number to four, the number of schools commissioned in the region in less than one year.

Bashaizon Primary, which is an annex to Achawib Primary school was today commissioned by First Vice President and Minister of Indigenous Peoples Affairs, Hon Sydney 20200131 16

The construction of the edifice cost in excess of $19M and will accommodate the sixty-two (62) children and their teachers of the community in a modern and conducive learning environment.

In his remarks, Minister Allicock said that it is the vision of President David Granger to ensure that all citizens have access to quality education and where they are located should not be an impediment to receiving to 20200131 19

Further, VP Allicock noted the importance of modern learning facilities since this will allow for the advancement of the country's education agenda. "Education is not only about academics, but the infrastructure in which the education is delivered must be of a certain standard".

Additionally, Minister Allicock believes that if the two are in keeping with what is required, the education system is poised to achieve great things for the country.

He noted the need for a number of skill sets, in light of the country's oil and gas resources.

He encouraged the residents who attended the commissioning ceremony to ensure their children maximize the opportunities so that they can contribute to the development of themselves and Guyana.

When the Assistant Regional Executive Officer (AREO) for Region Nine Ms Althea Fitzpatrick proffered remarks, she noted the importance placed on education by the central government.

It was against this background that Ms Fitzpatrick informed that the regional administration will be constructing a new secondary school in Lethem and will also be extending the dormitories of all schools in the 20200131 20

According to the AREO, this move is owing to the increasing student population in the region and to ensure that more schools are accessible to the populace.

Ms Fitzpatrick highlighted the importance of education and noted that when children are properly educated they will have a better chance in the future.

The construction of the school according to the Regional Education Officer Ms Keane Adams will prevent children from trekking long distances to attend school. Added to that, Ms Adams said that in the current global space, education is a necessity and a worthwhile 20200131 15

She said the construction of the school will inspire the parents, teachers and students to excel.

Minister of Education Dr Nicolette Henry is on record saying that she will work assiduously to bridge the gap that exists between the hinterland and the coast. She noted that modern educational infrastructure is central to achieving this goal.
