Contract signed for construction of Yarowkabra Secondary School

Following the commissioning of two new schools in Region One on Monday, the Ministry of Education signed a contract today for the construction of the Yarowkabra Secondary School on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.

These projects are part of the vision and strategy of the Ministry of Education to provide modern educational facilities across Guyana.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Alfred King, the construction of the school is aimed towards making education accessible by providing quality educational spaces to all students.

The contract for the construction of the school was awarded to BK International Inc. at a cost of $826,757,737. The school is being funded by the Government of Guyana and has the capacity to accommodate 600 students. The duration of the contract is one year.news 20200107 21

Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Brian Tiwari said his company is more than happy to be associated with the Ministry to construct the school and assured that all works will be done in accordance with the required standard and best practices.

Minister of Education, Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry said that the government of Guyana has made a commitment to prioritize education through which the country will develop.

Minister Henry remarked that she and His Excellency, President David Granger have on many occasions spoke about the repositioning of education. Minister Henry noted that currently two other secondary schools are being constructed at Good Hope, East Coast of Demerara and the Westminster, West Bank Demerara which are both funded by the World Bank.news 20200107 23

According to Minister Henry, the intention of the government and the Ministry is to have excellent secondary schools in every region so that when students enter the secondary level they have a school that can nurture them.

When the school is completed, it is expected to serve students in the Yarowkabra community and other neighbouring communities on the Linden Highway. The construction works will be supervised by VIKAB Engineering Consultants Ltd.
The school will be outfitted with modern amenities inclusive of Information Technology Laboratories, Allied Arts Department, Library, science laboratories and an auditorium.
