Bartica hosts Rally to celebrate Education Month

A celebration, in the form of a road march, rally and cultural presentation, organized by the Department of Education, Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region 7 was hosted on Friday, September 20, 2019 in observance of Education Month 2019.

The march around the streets of Bartica culminated at the Community Centre Ground for a grand rally and talent show which saw participation from teachers and students from several schools in and around Bartica as well as education and regional 20190923 8
On parade, hundreds of students chanted the theme for 2019 Education Month: “Education – The Key to National Development”, along with their slogan: “Go to School and don’t be a Fool”.
Among the schools that participated were the Three Miles and Bartica Secondary, St. John-the-Baptist Primary, St. Anthony’s Primary, High Achievers School of Learning, Adult Education Institute and the St. Michael’s Private School.
Delivering the feature address, Regional Chairman, Mr. Gordon Bradford, expressed the government’s commitment to the delivery of quality education to the nation. “The national and regional budgets, both, reflect significant allocations towards education, because your government recognizes the importance of education in the development of the nation, and is sparing no effort to equip you with the right skills to take on the imminent challenges of nation-building”, he 20190923 7
Mr. Bradford also announced the plans for the construction of an early childhood school and a special needs school at Bartica, along with the construction of several primary schools in the Upper Mazaruni and Cuyuni, some of which have already started.
An entertaining cultural presentation by teachers, students and education officials followed, to wrap up the event.
