…as MoE and Ansa Mcal recognize region five NGSA top performers

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with Ansa Mcal, at Cotton Tree Primary School in West Coast Berbice, today recognized the top ten achievers from region five who recently sat the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination. The ten children all received a place at one of the country’s top five learning institutions.

Minister of Education Dr Nicolette Henry in her feature address told the children that they are heading the right direction. The awardees were encouraged to seize the opportunity while working hard to realize their maximum potential. The Education Minister said that she is aware that the accomplishments of the children are a team effort involving the MoE, the teachers and parents.

Further, Dr Henry said that the hard work of those who contributed to the children’s success is one that is commendable and that under her stewardship all will be done to ensure that greater results are gained in the future. Touching on the resources expended in the foregoing four years, she said that the education sector has been receiving a sizeable portion of the national budget annually.

It is on this note that all concerned were charged to go the extra mile to ensure that the results are continuously improving, since to whom much is given much is expected.

Meanwhile the Deputy Regional Executive Officer- Region Five, Mr Sherwin Wellington told the children education is the gateway out of poverty and difficult situations. Wellington encouraged those recipients to strive for excellence and it is what they ‘put in that is what they will get out’. Further, the DREO said that it is education that will transform the country and lead it from poverty to prosperity. He believes that in the absence of education the individual will not be able to achieve certain accomplishments.
