Minister of Education commissions nursery schools

Yesterday the Minister of Education Dr Nicolette Henry commissioned two schools, Carmelita and Smyth Street nursery schools.

During the commissioning, Dr Henry said that it was important for children to learn and develop in a child-friendly environment. She said that her ministry has been focusing on early childhood because since there is value in such an approach.news 20181203 29

The Education Minister said that nursery schools are building blocks for children and they should leave these institutions capable of functioning effectively in the primary school system.news 20181203 27

Chief Education Officer Mr Marcel Hutson in his address said that nursery schools should not be seen as a daycare facility. Hutson said that when the children leave these institutions they should be literate and numerate.
The schools are equipped with a Kitchen, a sick bay, a reading corner and other modern amenities.

The two schools were constructed at a cost in excess of $50M.
