Guyanese students participating in Youth Climate Change Conference

news 20171009 4Guyana has fielded a team of four students to the Youth Climate Change Conference (YCCC) being held in Jamaica. The group includes Yevnie Sukra of the New Amsterdam Multilateral School, Suphane Dash of St. Stanislaus College, Aadilah Ali of Queen's College and Christine Rose Archer of St. Roses High School.

Their participation in the programme is being sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through the Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (J-CCCP) regional project.
The conference is being held under the theme: "Our Climate, Our Voice, Our Change." It aims to mobilise youth voices for climate change action, providing a forum for young people to engage in the climate change discourse with experts in the Caribbean. During this, the students will share their country's experiences and propose solutions to address climate change.
When the students return to Guyana, they will provide a joint report of their experience at the conference and submit same to the Ministry of Education and the Office of Climate Change (OCC).
This photo was taken yesterday morning just before they boarded their flight to Jamaica. Stay tuned to this page for updates regarding their performance at the conference which begins tomorrow.
