Nine youths from the VSP participating in exchange programme in Barbados

A group of nine volunteers from the Volunteer Support Platform travelled to Barbados today to participate in the Guyana/Barbados Youth Exchange Programme 2016. This completes the cycle of the exchange programme which was initiated In March of this year when a team of 25 young people from the Haynesville Youth Club in Barbados visited Guyana.

This initiative was conceptualized at the Third Guyana-Barbados Joint Commission Heads of States Meeting in October 2015.
At the Heads of State meeting, the importance of strengthening the regional relationship and integration between Guyana and Barbados in the areas of youth development, culture and agriculture were highlighted.
While in Barbados the group will participate in workshops designed to strengthen and create new approaches to entrepreneurship through cultural development while building the capacity of young people in order to help create employment and business opportunities; build capacity in small business management techniques relative to agriculture; foster sustained youth involvement at national and regional levels through civic engagement and leadership and impart skills and knowledge in the areas of upcycling, recycling and economizing in the creation and promotion of craft.
The team is scheduled to return to Guyana on June 19, 2016.
