National Voluntarism Support Platform (VSP) presents its 2nd National Youth Award

The Volunteer Support Platform (VSP) will be hosting its 2nd National Youth Award on November 30th, 2015. The first award ceremony was held in 2014 where awards were presented to persons who excelled in making a difference in health, education, sports, and advocacy, among others.

This year’s awards will be handed out in the following categories:- are in these sectors:

  1. Award of Participation – Regional and National
  2. Award of Services – Regional, National, Media Personnel, Media House and School.
  3. Award of Excellence – Youth Entrepreneurship, Health, Sports, Environmental and Agriculture.

The VSP is inviting all persons between the ages of 14 – 35 and existing organizations to apply and contest for the awards. Forms and guidelines are available at the VSP office located at the Ministry of Education, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport office Main Street. Forms can also be obtained from the Regional Youth Officers or Village Councils.

The objectives of this peculiar award ceremony are to highlight outstanding work that young people contribute to communities by providing social services; to motivate young people to develop a sense of duty and leadership to their community regardless of age; to establish benchmarks that challenges young people to increase their skills in different fields, thus improving their personal potential as productive citizens; to recognize youth and voluntary organizations for their achievements through youth-focused programmes/initiatives; and to recognize voluntary organizations for their outstanding achievements in the fields of youth development and welfare; and to encourage young people to recognize volunteerism as a strategy to become involved in activities that they have interest in for the purpose of education, career, and/or leisure.

It is anticipated that gains of the awards will increase the participation of youth in public affairs through volunteerism, increased the ability of youth to advocate for themselves, increase the value of youth and their contribution to community and national development, greater focus will be placed on highlighting, promoting and filling possible gaps existing in youth oriented services, and that there will be an increase in the value of volunteerism.
