The Sophia Training Centre (STC) is working to equip students with Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) certification that will improve their marketability.news 20170228 6

Administrator Cardis Dick said, the institute’s move towards granting this certification will enable the students to gain employment anywhere in the Caribbean.

Dick explained to the Government Information Agency (GINA), that currently the centre operates as a technical institute and is moving towards offering Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) certification for the students to have at least a CVQ level one.

This Open Day event is one of many to be held at other national technical institutions throughout Guyana, as the Ministry of Education (MOE) intensifies efforts to create better awareness and significantly raise the profile of TVET in Guyana.

The Education Ministry has come on board National Testing Week and is hoping to test some 1000 employees and members of the public during this period.

On Monday, a one day testing exercise commenced at a site set up in the ministry’s 26 Brickdam compound. On Tuesday, another one day exercise will be held at the Carnegie School of Home Economics.
