After successfully introducing the Caribbean Vocational Qualification or CVQ at most of the technical institutes, the Ministry of Education is now moving to introduce on a phased basis, the competency-based qualification to students in secondary schools.news 20170131

Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for technical education, Patrick Chinedu Onwuzirike, told the Government Information Agency (GINA), that starting in September, the ministry will begin piloting the CVQ in ten secondary schools.

More empowerment training for youth in 2017

The Government of Guyana will continue with a variety of programmes to target youth unemployment in 2017.

Among those programmes identified are the Youth Entrepreneurial Skills Training (YEST), the Sustainable Livelihoods and Entrepreneurial Development (SLED) initiative which has been allocated $100M; the Hinterland Employment and Youth Service (HEYS) which has been allocated $991M and the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) platform for certified training for out-of-school youth.news 20161201
