Guyana to get $943M education boost

—through Global Partnership for Education grant

A partnership with US-based, Global Partnership for Education (GPE) will see Guyana receiving a $940Million boost to aid in inclusive education and improved teaching capacity.

The education funding organisation GPE has approved the funds to strengthen Guyana’s education system as the government continues to work to ensure that every child has access to an equitable education.

The organisation aims to strengthen education systems in developing countries to dramatically increase the number of children who are in school and learning.

The funds will support the implementation of the National Education Sector Plan.

Guyana’s expression of interest to access the GPE Multiplier allocation of $943Million (US$4.5m) was approved by the organisation’s Grants and Performance Committee.

The Education Ministry is still in the process of finalising key details of the education boost.

Both the Ministry of Education and GPE are committed to continued collaboration to improve education access and quality in Guyana.

GPE works with nearly 70 developing countries to help them improve and implement quality education sector plans, laying the foundation for strong education systems.

GPE has also mobilised more than US$7 billion for education worldwide, creating better opportunities for millions of children, their communities and their countries.

The organisation specialises in education in times of crisis, early education, inclusive education, teaching quality, learning assessments and gender equality in education.
