Kwakwani and Howell Wilson NGSA graduates recognised for outstanding performances

Recent graduates of the Kwakwani and Howell Wilson Primary Schools in Sub-region Two, of Region Ten, Upper Demerara-Berbice were recently honoured with a prize-giving ceremony, for their outstanding performances at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).

Attending the ceremony, Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin commended the students on their achievements. “Hard work does bring about good results. Your success at your examination is due largely to the hard work that you put in. I would like you to take that with you when you begin your new life and new beginnings with your secondary education.”news 20180806 1

The Business Minister further encouraged the graduates to develop a love of reading and to make use of every publication they can get their hands on. “It increases your vocabulary, it expands your knowledge and it makes you a better-educated person.”

The students were presented with were school bags, trophies and monetary donations.

A total of 14,145 candidates sat the examination back in March. The results indicated improvements in English with 60 percent in passes when compared to 54 percent last year; 46 percent gained 50 percent or more in Social Studies – a one percent drop compared to last year; and passes at science remained the same with 46 percent achieving 50 percent or more marks. Mathematics results saw a seven percent reduction in those gaining 50 percent or more.
