Christmas cheer taken to NOC students

“Each child should be treated with love, respect and dignity,” declared Minister within the Ministry of Education, Hon. Nicolette Henry at the annual luncheon held each year at the New Opportunity Corps.
At this year’s event, the Minister was joined by Permanent Secretary – Mr. Alfred King; Director of Youth - Ms. Melissa Carmichael; Assistant Director of Youth – Ms. Leslyn Boyce and other senior staff in the Ministry.
While delivering her remarks, Minister Henry emphasized that the staff at the NOC should count it a privilege to be able to take care of the children. She added that regardless of the circumstance the students must be treated with love, respect, compassion and dignity.

As the name of the institution suggests, the Minister emphasized that the staff should collectively work towards ensuring that the students are afforded as many ‘Opportunities’ as possible – especially educational opportunities. Minister Henry explained that this would see them being molded into productive persons that are able to make a positive contribution to society.
Having recognized that each child has a dream for a better life, Minister Henry urged the entire staff of the NOC not to fail the children.
In his remarks, PS King recalled the success stories for a few young men who were students at the NOC and have gone on to well for themselves. In this regard, the PS noted that the administrators, policy makers and stakeholders should collective work towards providing opportunities that will allow the students to lead productive lives.
PS King added that it is therefore important that quality education and vocational skills training programmes are on par with other educational institutions.
The PS urged the staff to deliver nothing less than good virtues that will leave a legacy with this generation and the others to come.
At today’s luncheon the students were treated to a hearty meal and were able to interact with Minister Henry, PS King and the other staff from the Ministry. The students also displayed their musical and dance skills.
