Through an integrated training programme, the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is seeking to sensitise heads and seniors of post-secondary institutions across the country about the importance of giving persons with special needs the opportunity for tertiary education.The programme commenced on Thursday at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD), and participants were introduced to disability awareness in its entirety as it relates to the legal framework, and to understanding disability and disability etiquette.

The Education Ministry in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Tackle Project has launched the extension of the Voluntary Mentoring Programme.

The programme is designed to empower secondary school students to develop useful stills to make important and productive life choices.

National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Coordinator Carol Benn speaking at the launch convened at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD), said the programme which is already implemented in five schools, will be introduced in five more schools.

The number of students residing in government funded dormitories will increase significantly in the next three years as the Ministry of Education pushes ahead with plans to expand access to secondary education.

This disclosure was made by Education Minister Shaik Baksh at a recent workshop for Dorm Parents held at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD).
