Education Notice Cyril Potter College of Education

The Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) will be offering Teacher Training programmes for Academic Year 2018-2019.

Application forms can be accessed from the Turkeyen CPCE office, Regional Education
Departments, any of the CPCE centres, Technical and Vocational Institutions or from
the Ministry of Education website www.education.gov.gy

Please ensure you complete and submit a 2018 Application Form.

Upon completion of your studies at CPCE, you are expected to serve the people and
GOVERNMENT OF GUYANA for a specified contractual period. YOU WILL BE PLACED AT A SCHOOL IN ANY PART OF GUYANA WHERE THERE IS NEED FOR YOUR SERVICE.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for all programmes must be at least seventeen (17) years of age by the
2018- 08-31.

Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) CSEC subjects; General Proficiency Grades 1-3, OR Basic Proficiency Grade 1, including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants who obtained passes in CSEC subjects before 1998 must have either Grade 1 or 2.

Preference would be given to students with CAPE/Advanced Qualifications.

A. PROGRAMME 1

• ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN EDUCATION (TWO-YEAR)


SPECIALIZATIONS

(i) EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

(ii) PRIMARY EDUCATION

NB: Applicants for the Early Childhood and Primary Education Programmes MUST have obtained passes in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and English, with at least Grade 3 (CSEC General Proficiency, after 1998) OR, Grade 1 (CSEC Basic Proficiency).

(iii) SECONDARY
Subject disciplines: Agricultural Science, Business Studies, English, Home Economics, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Science and Social Studies.

NB: Applicants for the Secondary Specialization (with the exception of Mathematics) must have obtained passes in at least TWO areas within the subject discipline to be pursued, with at least Grade 2 (CSEC General Proficiency, after 1998) OR, Grade 1 (CSEC Basic Proficiency).

Applicants who are desirous of pursing Agricultural Science must have at minimum, Grade 1 or 2 CSEC Double Award or Grade 1, Single Award and Grade 1 or 2 in Biology or Chemistry.


Priority for Programme 1 would be given to applicants who are:

1. Currently serving in the Education System.
2. From riverine and hinterland areas.
3. Desirous of pursuing secondary training in critical areas such as Mathematics, Home Economics, Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Modern Languages, Science, Music Education.

Other applicants will be selected based on the needs of the Administrative Region in which they intend to serve following successful completion of their studies.

B. PROGRAMME 2

• TRAINED TEACHER’S CERTIFICATE

NB: Available in Regions 1, 7, 8 and 9.

SPECIALIZATIONS

(i) EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
(II) PRIMARY EDUCATION

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess at minimum, Four (4) CSEC subjects, including Mathematics and English. Successful completion of the CPCE Teacher Upgrading Programme would be accepted.

C. PROGRAMME 3
• ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN EDUCATION (ONE-YEAR)

SPECIALIZATION:

TECHNICAL TEACHER EDUCATION

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess the following minimum requirements:
i) The Guyana Technical Education Examination (GTEE) Technician Certificate Part II or equivalent;
ii) Evidence of at least two hundred (200) hours of post industrial experience.

iii) Evidence of a pass in English Language at CSEC or equivalent.

Note:
1. Classes will be conducted on Fridays and Saturdays at CPCE, Turkeyen, and GTI, Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.
All applicants from Technical and Vocational Institutions must return completed 2018 application forms through the Principal/Administrator of the respective TVET Institution to:

Final selection for entry to the College would be determined by points gained in two categories: Academic Qualifications and Interviews. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate interpersonal and other soft skills during interviews. Evidence of voluntary service to the community would be an asset.


Completed application forms for all Programmes must be returned no later than
June 22, 2018.
