Guyana recruits Argentine coach for clash against Mexico

Guyana’s National Rugby male team is scheduled to compete against Mexico in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) 15s final on October 1, 2016. The Government of Guyana (GOG) in collaboration with the various sports associations through Argentina’s Ambassador to Guyana Luis Alberto Martino, has managed to recruit one of Argentina’s national coaches, Diego Giannantonio.news 20160922 6

Art, sports being introduced to St. Cuthbert’s Secondary

Students of St. Cuthbert’s Mission Secondary School will soon benefit from the introduction of arts and sports which are expected to aid in promoting well rounded students.Renowned Guyanese artist George Simon is working with the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs to introduce art at the school. St Cuthbert’s is the only indigenous community in Region Four.

Education COI goes to Region One

The Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the education system recently concluded in Region One, Barima-Waini. The public consultations were held in Moruca, Port Kaituma and Mabaruma where a number of issues were highlighted and recommendations made.Teachers, parents, and regional education officials were among those who turned out to make their contributions. COI, Chairman Ed Caesar said he was very pleased with the attendance in the Region One leg of the consultations. “Persons were even standing outside the venue with umbrellas … So I was pleased, very pleased with the attendance,” Caesar stated.

Brickdam Secondary back up and running

...New locale sees mixed reaction

Teachers and students of the Brickdam Secondary School are reportedly pleased with their new abode, at the former St. Pius Primary in East La Penitence.According to the Headmistress, Mrs. Shandrina Welcome-Lee, they are not completely settled, as boxes are still to be unpacked, but she is very much pleased with the new building.

Nursery educators urged to be leaders of positive influence

Educators and teachers were honoured for their long service in nursery education in observance of the 40th anniversary of the Guyana Nursery Education Programme.news 20160919 1

The red carpet reception and dinner award was held on Saturday at the Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown. Former Chief Education Officer (CEO) acting, and award recipient Genevieve Whyte-Nedd encouraged teachers and educators to be “leaders of a positive influence.”
