‘Celebration with dignity, liberty and greater unity’ – Mash 2017 launched

In an exuberant spectacle enlightening Guyanese on what the Mashramani celebrations for 2017 will be like, Mash 2017 was launched Thursday under the theme: “Celebration with dignity, liberty and greater unity.”Addressing the gathering in front of the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport Main Street office, was Minister in the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry, who noted, “Our foreparents worked hard and long for us to enjoy such a rich cultural heritage.”news 20161028 1

Children of sugar workers awarded

The Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund Committee (SILWFC) recently hosted its Annual Bursary Awards Ceremony during which it presented awards to 12 children of sugar workers for the year 2016.Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the entity, Allan Munroe congratulated the awardees and encouraged their parents to continue supporting them in all their endeavours.

Department of Youth creating job opportunities

The Ministry of Education, Department of Youth is making efforts to provide young people with employment through public private partnerships, with the aim of having a batch of youths attached to organizations such as Edward B Beharry & Co Ltd, ANSA McAL Trading Ltd. and Banks DIH Ltd among others by May 2017.

HEYS youth take to joinery, carpentry

…move touted as a life changer for many

Youths from the hinterland are optimistic that corporate Guyana and the Government will support their carpentry and joinery efforts, an initiative being undertaken in the ongoing Hinterland Employment and Youth Service (HEYS) Programme.
The youth programme which is a one-year initiative is intended to create that enabling environment where youth can become self-sufficient.

Numeracy and literacy programme to be taken to more primary schools

The remedial teaching programme, SuccessMaker, is to be introduced into another set of primary schools to help improve numeracy and literacy levels.

Building on the successes of SuccessMaker when it was introduced into the Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories of 70 primary schools across the country, the Ministry of Education is now moving to introduce the digital mathematic and reading programme into another 18 schools.news 20161027 5
