Today, secondary school teachers from regions 3, 4 and Georgetown commenced training to use an Education Management Information System (EMIS) software which is intended to improve information management and efficiency in schools.

The EMIS would enable teachers, and the Ministry of Education policymakers to efficiently manage the education sector data and take effective measures to address key sector issues. According to Mr. Indar Singh, Head of the Management Information Systems (MIS) Unit within the Ministry of Education, the one-stop-shop, the EMIS software features include enrolment information, attendance, grade book, report card, transcripts, end of year processing, class portal, teacher web pages, parent portal, teacher information, time tabling and 20180214 3
"This will be a major resource to gather the information we need to monitor, assess and inform educational policies moving forward," Mr Singh said.

Addressing the opening of the workshop Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry noted "Once we have the valid data and information we can make changes, give the support and implement policies that will transform our education systems, creating high quality institutes of learning that will regain Guyana's international reputation for producing accomplished, top-rated students." The landmark training programme for teachers from twenty schools is intended to impact the human resource of the Ministry of Education and by extension the nation.
