Education Minister Honours Commitment Made by President Irfaan Ali to Riverain Communities | May 31st, 2024.

Today, the Honourable Priya Manickchand, Minister of Education, fulfilled a promise made by His Excellency Dr. Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, by visiting three riverain communities and delivering essential donations. She was accompanied by Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kwame Mc Coy and other local officials.

The Ministers’ visit focused on enhancing educational resources and addressing the unique challenges faced by remote communities. The recipient schools included Low Wood Primary School, Susannah's Rust Nursery and Primary School, and Dora Primary School, each of which received support.

Low Wood, with approximately 120 residents, including 20 children and 3 teachers, welcomed the Minister's delegation with gratitude. Similarly, Susannah's Rust, comprising roughly 120 residents across 40 households, received support for its 22 students and 4 teachers. In Dora, an approximately 40-family community with 18 students and 4 teachers, the Minister's visit underscored the government's commitment to equitable education for all.

During her engagements, Minister Manickchand actively listened to the concerns of community members, ranging from attendance issues to curriculum challenges. Visits to local health centers provided an opportunity to discuss broader community well-being, reinforcing the government's holistic approach to development.

Furthermore, Minister Manickchand engaged educators in constructive dialogues, exploring strategies to enhance educational delivery tailored to the unique needs of remote areas. The collaborative efforts aimed to empower teachers and administrators with the necessary tools to facilitate quality learning experiences for their students. Generous contributions, including life jackets, laptops, printers, fans, filing cabinets, and water dispensers, were gratefully received by all communities. The tangible support reflects the government's commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment and promoting educational equity across Guyana.

The communities expressed sincere appreciation for the Ministers’ visit and the government's unwavering dedication to their educational welfare. Such initiatives serve as a testament to Guyana's collective pursuit of inclusive development and opportunities for all citizens.
