The Ministry of Education opened its first Education Exposition today at D'Urban Park with students from over 100 schools attending the signature event to mark Education Month 2019.

Delivering the feature address this morning was His Excellency Brigadier David A. Granger, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana who said that his government is committed to ensuring each child receives their entitlement to a free education, which is guaranteed under the 20191001 5

He said that over the years the government has made several investments to improve the education sector. Among those improvements was an increase in the stipend given to trainee teachers of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) which he promised will be increased further next year.

The President also made mention of the 5 Bs Initiative and the National Endowment for Science and Technology (NEST) programme to support the teaching of science and technology in 20191001 6

According to His Excellency, his government is dedicated to developing a first-class education system in Guyana whereby every child will be educated from nursery to university at the state's expense.

He said that Guyana should have an education system that emphasizes equality. He said that it is the intention of the government to have first-class schools in every administrative region which will reduce or eliminate the need for students to travel to the coast or Georgetown to attain a good 20191001 20

Minister of Education, Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry told the gathering that education is the most important tool that symbolizes growth in any nation.

Minister Henry assured the students and teachers that the Ministry of Education is committed to providing educational opportunities for all sectors of society, thereby delivering on its promise of 'a good life for all Guyanese'.

Further, Minister Henry noted that education in Guyana is revolutionizing from Nursery to 20191001 11 "Gaps of disparity are being bridged every day whether by technological advancement or enhancing of professional training and skills. And I sincerely promise you this is merely the beginning," Minister Henry remarked.

She said that the exposition provides the Ministry of Education with an excellent opportunity to showcase the various educational opportunities available to the public, development within the education sector, the vision of the education ministry and the outstanding creativity of the education fraternity.

Minister Henry thanked the organizers of the event for making it a success. news 20191001 16"It is through collaborative efforts and commitment among students, teachers, Regional Education Offices and other stakeholders that the Ministry is able to host this exhibition," Minister Henry remarked.

Chief Education Officer, Dr. Marcel Hutson during his remarks said that education has the ability to propel the individual and by extension the nation.

He said that it is important to protect and equip the human resource as the country prepares for future 20191001 13

He added that at the exposition, the stakeholders and members of the education fraternity will be able to see the developments in education and for comments about what can be improved in the education sector.

Sixty-eight booths were on display with students from over 100 nursery, primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
