The Ministry of Finance on Sunday, July 28, 2019, donated an outboard engine to the Department of Education of Region No. 2, Pomeroon-Supenaam to be used on the David 'G' Boat that serves the students in the Lower-Pomeroon area.

Minister of Finance, Hon. Winston Jordan who handed over the engine to the Regional Education Officer (REdO), Ms. Nicola Matthews, said that while being in the region last year it was brought to his attention that the David 'G' Boat was borrowing an engine and needed one of its own.
As such, his Ministry procured the 200 Horse Power Yamaha engine at a cost of about $4.3M. He said that his Ministry is always happy to help where it can, especially in education.news 20190730 5
Minister of Education, Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry thanked the Ministry of Finance for partnering with her ministry. She said that the initiative aligns with the education ministry's priority of ensuring access to education.
The REdO, Ms. Matthews said that the donation of the engine will be very beneficial to the students since they will be transported from the Lower-Pomeroon to attend schools such as the Charity Secondary, 8th of May Secondary and the Anna Regina Secondary.
Prior to the handing-over ceremony that was held at the Regional Democratic Council's compound, both Ministers engaged residents of Hackney Village, located along the Pomeroon River at the Hackney Primary School.
While there, Minister Henry and Minister Jordan took note of the concerns of residents that will require the intervention of the relevant government agencies.
