news 20181212 14Svetlana Dowding, a Fifth former at the Aurora Secondary School, copped the top prize in Information Technology at the 2018 Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) for her school.

The Ministry of Public Telecommunication’s representative was on hand to add praise and encouragement to the students.
MOPT’s Training Co-ordinator, Donnella Collison, presented Svetlana with the gift of a Tablet, compliments of the Ministry. She took the opportunity to encourage the student to pursue any of the Computer Sciences as she moves forward pursuing higher education.
This year Aurora Secondary offered 13 students for Information Technology ((IT) at CSEC. It recorded a 92 percent pass rate.
According to Ms. Collison, the secondary school exam syllabus, not unlike the MOPT’s training outreaches in and outside of Georgetown, are geared to encourage students to develop problem-solving skills using computer devices while sharpening their general computer literacy skills.
The Ministry of Public Telecommunications also presented a computer in November to the Best Graduating Student in IT at the Corentyne Comprehensive High School.
