Over the next two days, students of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) will be participating in a training session under the recently launched Football For Schools Programme.

The Government of Guyana will distribute a total of 193,679 “Because We Care” cash grants and school uniform allowances, with an estimated cost of over $5.8 billion in 2022.

Marti Fernando De Souza, 39, Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for Amerindian and Hinterland Education Development, is working to eliminate the disparity that exists in the education system between the hinterland and the coastland, create opportunities for trained and qualified teachers to teach, and to improve pass rates in examinations in hinterland areas.

The North Ruimveldt Secondary School, once rebuilt, will be outfitted with another smart classroom to replace the one that was destroyed in the fire last year.

The Ministry of Education will launch a new programme titled ‘Advancing in English’ this month, geared towards helping Spanish-speaking students in the education system.

MINISTER of Education, Priya Manickchand, said that the distribution of the $25,000 “Because We Care” cash grant and $5,000 uniform voucher will begin across the country on August 2.

The Ministry of Education’s ‘Smart Classroom’ initiative is expected to be implemented in every hinterland and riverine community by the end of this year.

Thus far, 54 per cent of schools in Regions One, Seven, Eight, and Nine are benefitting from this programme.
