$1 billion for youth development in budget 2019

The establishment of Regional Youth Councils across the country, along with the formulation of a National Youth Counseling Programme, a Youth Entrepreneurial Framework, and Youth Apprenticeship Programme, are just a few of the ways in which the government has catered for the development of young people in the 2019 budget.

127 graduate from Sophia Training Centre

One hundred and twenty-seven Sophia Training Centre (STC) students graduated on Wednesday after successfully completing the 31st Youth Entrepreneurial Skills Training Programme (YEST) in a variety of disciplines.

85 successfully complete YEST programme at STC

The Sophia Training Centre’s (STC) twenty-ninth Youth Entrepreneurial Skills Training (YEST) programme began on May 16, 2016 with 105 trainees. The programme ended today with the awarding of certificates to 85 graduands (61 males and 44 females), who, despite challenges pursued their training to the end.

More empowerment training for youth in 2017

The Government of Guyana will continue with a variety of programmes to target youth unemployment in 2017.

Among those programmes identified are the Youth Entrepreneurial Skills Training (YEST), the Sustainable Livelihoods and Entrepreneurial Development (SLED) initiative which has been allocated $100M; the Hinterland Employment and Youth Service (HEYS) which has been allocated $991M and the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) platform for certified training for out-of-school youth.
