    ─ as two-day tech expo launched

    Chief Education Officer (CEO), Dr. Marcel Hutson said Guyana is on its way to achieving a “world class education” system, and to accomplish that, the Ministry of Education is using technology.

    Speaking at the launch of the ministry’s two-day technology expo, at the National Centre for Educational Resources Development (NCERD), Thursday, Dr Hutson said, “I think that we are on our way. Embracing technology, whether it is traditional or non-traditional technology has to be embraced especially if we are thinking modernity or modernisation,” he said.

    Guyanese living in Region, Pomeroon-Supenaam can now access the Guyana Learning Channel on the channel 10 frequency. The Ministry of Education is pleased to report that we now have coverage there after two years of being down. Presently, the Guyana Learning Channel Trust is working to restore access to other affected areas countrywide with urgency.

    The Guyana Learning Channel is an important component of the Ministry of Education as we strive to deliver education not just in the classroom but in the homes of our students to ensure the continuity of learning all across Guyana.

    Over the last three days, Guyana participated in the IX School Feeding Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean hosted in Barranquilla, Columbia.

    The country was represented by the Ministry of Education’s School Feeding Coordinator, Mahendra Phagwah. During a discussion, he stated that the Government of Guyana is keen on ensuring that vulnerable children receive a meal every day and further highlighted the Government’s plans to expand the School Feeding Programme to better serve students in need.
