  • Department of Education – Georgetown distributes care packages to students participating in the Community Chalkboard Project

    On Friday, the Department of Education – Georgetown in collaboration with Central Ministry distributed care packages to students in the Albouystown, Sophia, Back Circle, Rasville and Wortmanville communities. The initiative targeted those students that have been consistently utilizing the chalkboards erected in their communities by the Department of Education on which school work is placed for the various grades to remain engaged while schools are closed for face to face teaching.

    Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, M.P, on Monday laid out a host of plans her ministry has in place for the new year, which will benefit both teachers and students.

    Region Six students are poised to have their learning experience taken to new levels following the commissioning of smart classrooms at the New Amsterdam Secondary School and the Skeldon Line Path Secondary. These classrooms are equipped with items such as interactive boards, televisions that will allow teachers and students to connect and interact remotely. Motion and voice-activated cameras complete with a voice recognition feature are also installed to ensure effective communication between participants.

    The Honourable Minister of Education Priya Manickchand along with the Regional Chairman of Region Two and the Regional Education Officer, Ms. Nicola Matthews met today with the parents and teachers of the Abram Zuil Secondary School to discuss the accommodation of the students enrolled at that school.

    Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand MP has expressed disappointment over a protest by members of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU), over what they claim was a lack of consultation on the upcoming National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and salaries for teachers.
