Measurement and Evaluation Unit

About Us

The Measurement and Evaluation Unit is responsible for the development of assessment instruments in order to obtain and provide useful information for decision making for the Ministry of Education and other agencies.

Primary General Objectives

  1. Develop test items, and scales for National Examinations, These are:
    • National Grade Two Assessment
    • National Grade Four Assessment
    • National Grade Six Assessment
    • National Grade Nine Assessment
    • Secondary Competency Certificate Programme
    • Guyana Technical Education Examination
    • Placement Examination for Grades Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten and Eleven.
  2. Process and analyse results of the examination for use by relevant personnel within the Ministry and other agencies.
  3. Moderate a sample of scripts for the National Grade Two and Four Assessments
  4. Train teachers and other personnel in all aspects of assessment, for example, using the results of continuous assessment to drive teaching.
  5. Monitor  the progress of pupils in the attainment of basic literacy and numeracy skills which should be aquired by Grade Four of the primary cycle. This, it is hoped, will improve the attainment of literacy and numeracy.
