She said that the Region would usually have similar exhibitions that include other subject areas; however, she said that a conscious decision was made to have an exhibition that specifically addressed mathematics.
During her opening remarks, the REO said that the nursery department along with the cluster of nursery schools across the region decided to hold the exhibition for the teachers.
She appealed to the teachers in attendance that they should take note of the exhibits so that they can introduce the concepts in their classrooms.
Meanwhile, Education Officer (Nursery), Ms. Ann Boston said that the decision to have the exhibition was premised on the fact that the nursery level is the foundation for education.news 20170929 9
“The nursery level is the foundation and we don’t want to be left behind. So, what we did was decide to have an exhibition to showcase mathematics and our theme is “Mathematics is Fun.”
Boston explained that the theme was chosen because people tend to believe that mathematics is a hard subject.
“One of the goals at the nursery level is to provide children with an opportunity for self-initiated activity through educational experience based on continuous analysis of each child’s mode of learning and as we go through today you will see activity based on different modes of learning, children can touch, they can feel, they can do all sorts of things and they can do Mathematics.”news 20170929 6
Boston also, stressed that she hopes the nursery school teachers use similar strategies in their classroom so as to teach their students.
