Guyana-Jamaica Group to sponsor Early Childhood Education Symposium

The Guyana-Jamaica Friendship Association (GJFA), a non-profit organization in New York, will sponsor a Symposium and Workshops on Early Childhood Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Education here in Guyana.news 20170802
The two-day Symposium and Workshops scheduled for August 3 and August 4 will be held at the Umana Yana in Kingston, Georgetown. This event is expected to be attended by Educators from all ten Regions of Guyana.

The five facilitators are educators from New York City with Caribbean heritage. They are Dr. Evelyn Castro, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education at Medgar Evers College (City University of New York); Dr. Norma Ellis-Wright; Dr. Parthener Pinder; Dr. Gloria Thompson and Dr. Claudia Williams. Dr. Frank Denbow, GJFA president, is accompanying the group. He believes that this initiative is timely as increasingly the group has come to recognize that it has to capture the imagination of youngsters at an early age so that they can be inspired to learn and be excited by the process.
Dr. Denbow is particularly interested in the emphasis on STEAM Education as it applies to very young children. He thinks that the natural curiosity of children can be stimulated to create scientists, especially if they are to take advantage of our newly found natural resources.
The topics for the workshops include: STEAM Education for Early Childhood Classrooms; Promoting Young Children’s Language Development; Home School Transitions/Connections; Inquiry the Beginning of Scientific Thinking for Young Children; and Supporting Active Play in the Early Years.
These topics are all designed to arm educators with enhanced tools to enrich the learning environment of their children.
The Symposium and Workshops will be opened by the Minister of Education, Ms. Nicolette Henry. Attendees will also be addressed by Chief Education Officer, Mr. Marcel Hutson.
More than 150 Educators are expected to attend this two-day event.
